Straight answers to common questions about Wiley Performance and how I work.
Wiley Performance FAQ
“The goal isn’t to convince anyone. It’s to determine whether the work fits the situation.” — Eric Wiley
Wiley Performance
What is Wiley Performance?
Wiley Performance is an independent advisory practice led by Eric Wiley. I work with executives and operators who want stronger execution, clearer priorities, and better follow-through — without adding complexity or headcount.
This is practical, hands-on support focused on how work actually gets done.
Why the name “Wiley Performance”?
The name reflects a focus on performance that’s measurable, sustainable, and grounded in real operating conditions. It also reflects the idea of a wingman — a trusted partner who brings perspective and support when decisions matter.
Who is this work designed for?
I typically work with:
- Executives and operators in small to mid-sized organizations
- Business owners navigating growth, change, or complexity
- Leaders in financial services, mortgage, and real estate–adjacent industries
The common thread isn’t industry — it’s responsibility and the need for better execution.
Why Wiley Performance?
After decades in leadership, operations, and compliance roles, I saw a recurring gap: capable leaders with sound strategies but limited time or structure to translate ideas into consistent execution.
Wiley Performance exists to help close that gap.
What shaped how this work is structured?
The biggest breakthroughs I’ve seen rarely came from big strategic shifts. They came from clearer priorities, better follow-through, and steady accountability over time.
This practice is built around that reality.
Services & Approach
What kind of work do you actually do?
The work generally falls into a few core areas:
- Executive partnership and decision support
- Execution alignment and operating focus
- Performance visibility (metrics, reporting, clarity)
- Select advisory support related to operations, technology, and compliance
The specifics vary based on the situation.
How is this different from traditional consulting?
I don’t deliver a report and walk away. I work alongside you — helping think through decisions, align priorities, and stay focused on what matters most as conditions change.
The emphasis is on progress, not presentation.
Do you offer coaching?
I work directly with leaders in a partnership role. The focus is less on formal coaching frameworks and more on real-time thinking, decision support, and accountability tied to the work in front of you.
What about mortgage lending expertise?
I bring experience across mortgage leadership, sales, and back-office operations — including infrastructure and IT, data flow, KPI reporting, compliance, licensing, quality control, and regulatory environments. When relevant, that perspective informs the advisory work, especially in regulated and operationally complex businesses.
Getting Started
How do I know if this is a fit?
This work tends to be a good fit when:
- Progress feels slower than it should
- Execution drifts despite capable people
- Priorities compete or keep shifting
- Visibility into performance is delayed or fragmented
If that resonates, a conversation is usually worthwhile.
What’s the first step?
Reach out through the Contact page. You’ll hear directly from me, and we’ll decide together whether it makes sense to continue the conversation.
Are engagements project-based or ongoing?
Both. Some work is time-bound and focused. Other engagements are ongoing advisory partnerships designed to provide continuity and follow-through.
Practical Details
Where are you based?
I’m based in Oregon and work with clients nationwide. Most engagements are virtual, with in-person work when it’s useful and appropriate.
How does pricing work?
Engagements are scoped based on the work involved. Depending on the situation, this may include hourly advisory, project-based work, or ongoing retainer-style support.
Can you work with my existing team or partners?
Yes. I’m comfortable working within existing structures and alongside internal teams, vendors, or other advisors.
Philosophy
What does it mean to be a “wingman” for leaders?
A wingman brings perspective, steadiness, and support during critical moments. In this context, it means you’re not working through complex decisions or execution challenges alone.
What makes Wiley Performance different?
- Real operating experience, not just advisory theory
- A focus on execution and follow-through
- Comfort working in regulated, high-stakes environments
- A commitment to partnership, not distance
Final note
If you’re unsure whether this work applies to your situation, that’s normal. A short conversation is usually enough to determine whether it makes sense to explore further.
